Seaoil NBTC High School All-Stars Showcase press con. 03.01.12

A few days ago, tryouts for the elite high school league were held from February 18-19 and its last the was on the 26th. Out of many hopefuls that joined from all over the Philippines, only 30 were chosen for the Seaoil NBTC High School All Star Showcase on March 4, 2012.

Last Thursday, a press conference was held at the National Sports Grill in Greenbelt 3 Makati city. I must admit I haven't seen many high school ball games in my life but this is a first for me. Five of the elite 30 players were present at the event: Jeron Teng from Xavier HS, LSGH's Thomas Torres, Kevin Baytan of Chiang Kai Shek, San Beda's Giboy Babilonia and JJ Alejandro from Mapua.

Out of the 5 players present, Jeron Teng was the only one familiar to me. There's already been news about that he's joining the De La Salle Green Archers next UAAP season.

Again, I'm not familiar with what type of game these young ballers play. So, I'm excited to watch them this Sunday.

It's good to see Alex Compton, who's a former pro basketball player is now a Training Director of NBTC and National University coach Eric Altamirano. The last time I saw coach Eric was during the elimination round of the UAAP basketball season. As for coach Alex, I've always been a fan of his since his days with the defunct pro ball league the MBA (Metropolitan Basketball Association). I forgot to mention former PBA commissioner Sonny Barrios was in attendance as well.

While many of the media folks that attended event know the players, I'ma have to get used to hearing their names once they set foot on a UAAP or NCAA game soon.

As for the game this Sunday, it will be held at Ynares Sports Complex in Pasig City and tip-off is at 11 am. Y'll should check this basketball game out. The best thing about it, IT'S ALL FOR FREE. How cool is that?

You can expect the inaugural Seaoil NBTC High School All Star Showcase to be highly competitive. It's really about time these young ballers be given some love and this Sunday, March 4 is your chance to get a glimpse of these future stars in the UAAP, NCAA or in the PBA.
