One of the worst teams in the NBA, the Oklahoma City Thunder haven't made such impact in the L. Despite having last season's ROY Kevin Durant playing for them, there's still no improvement. Nevertheless the Thunder is indeed a young team to begin with. So much for the team that's been working their asses off to rack up some W's. OKC fans booing them in home games is bad enough but there's one thing they should be happy about, for now that is.
This January, rookie guard Russell Westbrook was named NBA rookie of the month. Even though the team is getting all the hate at home, at least the rook is getting all the love from the NBA and coach Scott Brooks. The Thunder coach shared his thoughts on the rook's game and work ethic:
"With Russell, I think he has to continue to improve, continue to study the game, and he has," Brooks said. "He's improving every week. That's a good sign. Most rookies who work hard and are diligent in their efforts, by the end of the season you're going to see an improvement across the board, throughout the season, month to month."
So OKC fans, have a heart and support your team. Sure, it's the team's first season in your city which is understandable. The least you could do is root for your team and not hate on them. With a cat like Westbrook on your team, there's still some hope for the Thunder's future. Start believing in your team. It just takes time though. Patience is a virtue indeed.
IMHO, I think the Thunder can be a good team come 2011 or so, perhaps even sooner. With some solid post players, and maybe some veteran leadership, they could certainly go places.
ReplyDeleteOKS has a nucleus in place that could be competitive as soon as next year. Problem is no good big man aka centa is a part of the nucleus.
ReplyDeletePetro, Swift, Sene? Not so much-
Kristic could be a huge help, but prob not a long term solution.
Quality blog BTW.

Hey thanks for the visit and comments guys. I agree with you both that the Thunder already have solid players and have a bright future. A lot of improvements here and there but they are already on the road to success. They need a really good bigman to complete an already solid team. Veteran leadership is another thing they need. Krstic can be a big help for them but indeed, it won't be on long term basis.
ReplyDeleteActually, I DON'T understand why the Thunder is this bad. This is a team that's essentially unchanged (save the adding of Westbrook and Krstic) and these guys won 20 last year. Maybe it's because the rest of the West got better but while I don't expect them to be above the bottom three, these guys alone should've won eight games based on talent.
ReplyDeleteStill, they get a pass in OK City. It is their first year, after all.
Everything you said I agree, pare. :D
ReplyDeleteHa ha. I think no matter how you slice it, four wins is four wins. Well, five now since they beat the Knicks.
