Another week of UAAP basketball made headlines once again. The elimination round is just getting warmed up. Defending champs Ateneo Blue Eagles have no problems getting it done on the court and have yet to be toppled by a team this season. With that in mind, let's take look back at last week's hoops action:

Thursday, July 28

Game 1: Adamson dumps UE 87-54

UE's lone veteran Paul Zamar and his coach Jerry Codinera could only scratch their heads at their win-loss record this season. Things have gotten worse for the Red Warriors when they faced the Adamson Soaring Falcons last Thursday. As expected, the Falcons were too much to handle for the young UE squad.

Lester Alvarez of Adamson dropped 16 points, 3 assists, 2 boards and 2 steals on the hapless Red Warriors. Alex Nuyles added 11 points, 2 dimes and 1 rebound for the Falcons.

Paul Zamar was the only Red Warrior in double figures with 18 points, 2 boards and 1 steal.

Game 2: La Salle roll past National U 74-63

The NU Bulldogs were trying to comeback from a losing slump while the Green Archers were back to their winning ways. National U was pretty much overwhelmed by La Salle's offense (and defense) in the process. The Bulldogs' prized rookie Bobby Ray Parks Jr. was held only to 13 points. His teammate Glenn Khobuntin was the high point man for NU with 21 points, 7 boards and 1 assist.

LA Revilla lead the Gang Green with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 6 steals and 1 assist.

Game 1: Ateneo squash UP 77-57

It was yet another day in the office for the Ateneo Blue Eagles. The defending champs didn't have any problems getting a W on the UP Fighting Maroons. Kiefer Ravena just did his thing -- play basketball. He chalkled up 15 points, dropped 4 dimes, 4 steals and 3 rebounds for the Blue Eagles. Big man Greg Slaughter was a beast in the paint and had his usual double-double game with 14 points, 13 rebounds, blocked 2 shots and had 1 assist for Ateneo.

The Maroons main man Mike Silungan was held to only 8 points the entire game. He grabbed 7 boards and dropped 3 dimes.

Game 2: FEU shock UST 62-59

The UST Growling Tigers were thought victory was already in their grasp but rookie Cris Tolomia of FEU had other ideas. He made some noise when he dropped a cold-blooded 3-pointer on the Tigers with only a couple of ticks left in the game. It was indeed a heart-breaking loss for UST. The Tams win secured them the number 3 spot in the standings.

FEU's hero finished with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Swingman Jeric Teng had 23 points and grabbed 1 rebound in a losing effort for the Growling Tigers.

Sunday, July 31

Game 1: DLSU crush UE 87-63

It was pretty much a no-contest between the La Salle Green Archers and UE Red Warriors. UE played their worst game of the season and have yet to get a win. Jarelan Tampus led the Archers with 15 points, 4 dimes, 2 boards and 2 steals while veteran Simon Atkins chipped in 12 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dropped 5 dimes.

UE's Adrian Santos finished with 14 points and 3 rebounds. His teammate Paul Zamar had 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.

Game 2: National U upsets Adamson 63-53

Everybody expected the Adamson Soaring Falcons to get an easy win over the NU Bulldogs -- or so they thought. Despite the hot shooting of AdU's Alex Nuyles, the Bulldogs managed to get back in the game and Emmanuel Mbe turned into beast mode in the 3rd quarter. From there, he led NU's offense and defense to pull a come from behind upset on Adamson.

NU's Emmanuel Mbe had a monster of a double-double game with 16 points, 12 boards, 2 blocks, 1 assist and 1 steal. Bobby Ray Parks Jr. was only held to 7 points.

Adamson's Alex Nuyles lead his team with 15 points and 5 assists.
