Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Philippines 2014 presented by Alaska tips off January 18

Jr. NBA, the NBA’s youth basketball development program, will be back in the Philippines for the seventh consecutive year and reach even more schools and players across the country.

This January, young girl ball players will also get the opportunity to participate and benefit from the popular youth basketball program with the newly introduced Jr. WNBA program. Young females all over the Philippines can partake in NBA basketball clinics and vie for the chance to be named Jr. WNBA All-Stars.

Jr. WNBA, the female counterpart of the Jr. NBA Program, will be held in the Philippines for the first time in 2014. Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA 2014 presented by Alaska will tip-off at the British School in Taguig on January 18, where the search for the fourth Coach of the Year will also be launched.

The expanded program will reach over 500 schools and communities nationwide and benefit more than 70,000 students, parents, and coaches through Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA activities like basketball camps and clinics, NBA Cares outreach activities, television programs and online initiatives. Boys and girls of all ages can participate in the school clinics in the various venues.

The Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA 2014 presented by Alaska program then intensifies into Regional Selection Camps in March where the most outstanding players in the key cities will be identified and asked to participate in the third and climactic part of the program – the National Training Camp.

Jr. NBA was introduced in the Philippines in 2007 to 16 public and private schools in Metro Manila. In 2008, the program expanded to more than 200 schools and reached approximately 20,000 students, parents, and coaches across the country. In 2013, the program reached over 500 schools and communities and 70,000 students, parents, and coaches across the country.

Among its noted All-Stars alumni are Kiefer Ravena of the Ateneo Blue Eagles (2007), Carlo Escalambre of the San Sebastian Staglets and Mark Jayven Tallo of the De La Salle Green Archers (2009), Henry Asilum of the UP Fighting Maroons and Kib Montalbo of the De La Salle Green Archers (2010), Dawn Ochea of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and Kobe Paras of La Salle Greenhills (2011), Aljun Jay Melecio of De La Salle Zobel Baby Archers (2012) and Ricci Rivero of La Salle Greenhills (2013).

Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA 2014 presented by Alaska is composed of four stages, the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Touring Clinics for coaches and players from January to February, the Regional Selection Camps in March and April, the National Training Camp in April and the NBA Experience later in the year.

In addition to Presenting Partner Alaska Powered Milk Drink, Official Partners include Gatorade and Phoenix Petroleum. Returning as Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Supporting Partners are KFC and Spalding. Official NBA broadcasters are Basketball TV, NBA Premium TV and Studio 23.
