My stuff on the PCCL 2010 Elite Eight games

I wrote these while watching the game on TV.

Game 1: Confident Adamson U tame FEU Tamaraws

The FEU Tamaraws didn’t seem to play like their usual in the PCCL. Lack of focus and motivation may have gotten the best of them and Adamson University took advantage of it. The Soaring Falcons are out to prove that they have what it takes to win titles.

There was no hesitation whatsoever for the Falcons’ William Stinnett in leading his team to victory over the Tamaraws 75-57. Stinnett was oozing with confidence as he racked up 11 points, 5 boards and a steal. Adamson was scoring all over the place and FEU couldn’t find a way to keep the game close.

Adamson University’s easy win over the Far Eastern University earned them a spot in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League Final Four. They face either NCAA Champions San Beda College or De La Salle University tomorrow at the Arena.

Game 2: DLSU Green Archers shock SBC Red Lions for spot at PCCL Final Four

It all seemed like the San Beda Red Lions got everything planned out. Undefeated and won the title in the NCAA, their record unblemished in the PCCL – they could win it all – then the DLSU Green Archers came along. SBC’s former rivals in the NCAA got plans of their own – be the first team to defeat the Red Lions for a spot at the PCCL’s Final Four.

And they did just that.

The Red Lions scored only 8 points in the 1st quarter while DLSU was off to a good start with 28. Jake Pascual of San Beda, La Salle’s Ferdinand and Andrada got T’d up after an incident between Pascual and Marata with only 30 ticks left in the 2nd quarter. Despite all the tempers flaring up, Sudan Daniel kept his team close as they ended the half at 32-34.

San Beda kept their poise despite the Green Archer’s suffocating defense. Coach Frankie Lim didn’t mind the pressure until he saw Andrada’s block Anthony Semrad in transition with less than 3 minutes left in the third.

It all seemed so bleak for the Red Lions when they started trailing DLSU by 10 points in the 4th quarter. Coach Dindo Pumaren knew it was the beginning of the end for SBC albeit their late surge with only 2 minutes remaining. De La Salle University Green Archers defang the San Beda Red Lions 84-74.

Jarelan Tampus was the closer of the game with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists.

The Gang Green will clash with the Adamson University Soaring Falcons for tomorrow’s PCCL Final Four.
