FEU start own win streak, DLSU shoot down Adamson

After scoring their first ever win in the second round, they now look to continue racking up W's. Must be a good year for the Lady Tams to begin with. Maica Morada was very much pleased with her teammates performance. Having a taste of a first victory surely lifted their confidence up.

The University of the East Lady Warriors were looking to burst the Lady Tamaraws' bubble on Sunday. They have been on slump these past few weeks. UE's Kite Rosale hasn't been her usual self as well. She sure wants to end her teams losing skid.

UE didn't have any problems starting off the first set. It looked like they were poised to score an easy one on FEU as they took set number 1.

The Lady Tams' Maica Morada, the lone veteran on the team, was catching fire in the second set. She had a lot of help though from 16 year old rook Kathlene Magsumbol on the attack. They tied the game up quickly.

Kite Rosale was getting an earful from her coach as she was obviously struggling in the 3rd set. They got their momentum in the middle of the set another FEU rook was killing them by the name of Danna Henson -- the skinny gal with arms that pounds like a sledge hammer. That kind of spiking power is similar to that of Ateneo's Dzi Gervacio. The Lady Tams scored another victory in the 3rd set, they lead 2-1.

Same story in the 4th and final set for the Lady Warriors. Their unforced errors got the best of them. It seems as though FEU wasn't about to give up their winning streak as the 16 year old Magsumbol sealed the deal and chalked their 2nd consecutive win in the tournament.

Speaking of the young rookie, Kathlene Magsumbol was named Player of the Game scoring 17 points (12 attacks, 3 blocks).

FEU -- 3 UE -- 1

25-22, 13-25, 19-25, 17-25

Meanwhile, the De La Salle Lady Archers were looking to add another W against the improving Adamson Lady Falcons. Mommy Dulce Pante was in high spirits and pretty confident with the possibility of ending DLSU's winning streak for the first time. Adamson's roster was missing the services of one Luisa Mae Zapanta. She didn't play due to an injury of sorts.

Early in the first set, the Lady Falcons almost dominated the Lady Archers but didn't last quite long enough. Jacqui Alarca and Michelle Gumabao were in attack mode for DLSU -- as always. They easily won set number 1.

It was different story though in the second, "Kaboom: Jenalyn Ortega filled in for the injured Zapanta as she surprised the Lady Archers with her spiking prowess. Heck, woulda thought a girl her size could actually jump up and posterize La Salle's D?! Amazing. She's actually the reason why the game got close. No wonder her nickname is "Kaboom."

On the other hand, veteran Stephanie Mercado was there to test the might of "Kaboom" in the process. The Lady Archers won the second set.

"Kaboom" Ortega and Angela Bentina tried their absolute best to keep up with La Salle's offensive fury, most notably from Cha Cruz and Stephanie Mercado. In the end, Adamson faltered to the Lady Archers' dominance. Chalk up another sweeping victory the DLSU Lady Archers 3 sets to nil and they remain undefeated and on top of the standings.

Stephanie Mercado of DLSU was the Player of the Game with 10 points (9 attacks)
