DLSU snap FEU's streak, AdU win big on UE

When the Lady Archers are out dominating UAAP Women's Volleyball, they could care less about that little setback, right? I mean, come on?!! They just simply let their game do the talking for them -- like their game against UE last Sunday -- and nothing else. Period. That's pretty much the same thing for the FEU Lady Tams who have been steamrolling their opponents in the last couple of weeks. Just ask the Adamson Lady Falcons.

On Wednesday, FEU look to go for win number 4 but extending that win streak won't be an easy one though. After all, the Lady Archers haven't lost an actual game albeit stealing a set from them in their 1st round meeting. With the confidence back for the rookie-filled FEU team, a W on DLSU could be in the horizon for them.

The Lady Archers were struggling a bit in the first set. It seems as though FEU was playing with more intensity than their La Salle counterparts. The Lady Tams have somehow improved their defense as DLSU's Jacq Alarca ran into a brick wall of sorts. Steph Mercado and Cha Cruz sparked up the Lady Archers to take set number 1.

In the second set however, the Lady Tamaraws struggled to get their momentum back. La Salle simply dominated FEU and was victorious in set 2.

Maica Morada and Kathlene Magsumbol of FEU suddenly made a scoring run in the 3rd set. They've been defending Jacq Alarca well on the block and kept the game close. The DLSU defense forgot about Rosemarie Vargas as we was killing them upfront. La Salle coach Ramil De Jesus had seen enough of FEU's scoring surge made a few adjustments to their plays. It was now up to Alarca to fend off of their pesky FEU opponents. FEU was began racking up untimely errors. The Lady Archers would siege the opportunity and complete their 3-set sweep -- by a hair -- on the Lady Tams.

The Lady Tams snap their 3-game winning streak as Rosemarie Vargas finished with 13 points (9 attacks and 3 service aces) while her teammate Maica Morado also had 12 points (10 attacks and 1 block).

Shakey's Best Player of the Game was Jacq Alarca of DLSU with 13 points (12 attacks and 1 service ace).

DLSU -- 3 FEU -- 3

25-19. 25-11, 25-23

The Adamson Soaring Falcons have yet to make an impact in the second round. They are in danger of losing their number 4 spot in the standings to the NU Lady Bulldogs -- should they loss their game against the UE Lady Warriors. It was a showdown between two female coaches on the sidelines for the respective teams -- UE's Vangie De Jesus and Mommy Dulce Pante of Adamson. It's also worth noting that both teams have had a fair share of struggles as well.

A must win situation for both teams and Lady Falcons look to force a tie for 3rd place in the rankings. The Lady Warriors performance have been in questions as of late most especially on one Kite Rosale. As mentioned by Coach Vangie of UE during her pre-game interview, the team has all the tools in winning games but one thing was missing -- heart to play the game. Kite Rosale's out to prove to her team's critics wrong.

UE was off to a good start leading Adamson early in the game. The Lady Falcons' Luisa Zapanta has been struggling since coming off an ankle injury. Jenalyn "Kaboom" Ortega would fill in her shoes for some added size (no pun intended) and power for Adamson. With some adjustments in the lineup, the Lady Falcons took over the game and won the first set.

The Lady Warriors made a few tweaks with their plays as Jimberly Dizon and Kite Rosale finally got their offense (and defense) going and scored an equalizer on the Lady Falcons in the second set. Both teams now have won 1 set apiece.

Adamson Coach Dulce Pante wasn't happy with her teams 2nd set performance and who can blame her. It seemed like Rosale took notice of Adamson's strategy on her. Angela Benting would start flexing her muscles and give her team some boost in offense. They would do the same performance like they did in the 1st set but this time, Kaboom Ortega would join the scoring party.

Pau Soriano lead the Adamson offense to take the 2-1 lead over UE in the 3rd set. Mommy Dulce wanted to finish off the Lady Warriors in set number 4 while they still have their momentum going. It was all or nothing for UE as they gave their all in the game. Rosale made yet another scoring run for the Lady Warriors until they tied Adamson at the 20-point mark.

Like what happened to the Lady Tams in the first game, UE would rack up unforced errors when the game mattered most. Pau Soriano extended their lead in the 4th set and Kaboom Ortega -- the team's X-factor -- was the closer of the game sealed the Adamson victory 3-1 over the UE.

Kite Rosale had 24 points (21 attacks and 2 blocks) while Jimberly Dizon contributed 8 points for UE.

Angela Benting of Adamson was named Shakey's Best Player of the Game chalking up 18 points (16 attacks and 2 blocks). Pau Soriano had 15 points (11 attacks and 4 blocks) while Jenalyn "Kaboom" Ortega scored 8 points for the Lady Falcons.

I've now become an instant fan of the Adamson Lady Falcons because of Kaboom Ortega. What a joy it is to see her play. No wonder she's the crowd favorite whenever she steps on the court.

The win over UE ties them up with Ateneo for the 3rd seed in the standings.
