Ateneo and Adamson extend their streak, remain tied for third spot

Fresh from their big win against UST last month, the University of the Philippine Fighting Lady Maroons look for another W against the Adamson Lady Falcons. Mela Lopez and Co. couldn't be more happier with that W. With that in mind, a win streak of their own is in order.

Speaking of streaks, Adamson is continuing to rack up wins as of late. A win on the Lady Maroons would make them the lone third placer in the tournament. The only problem is, Ateneo is playing in the same day as they are. The Lady Eagles are expected to win in their match against the Lady Tamaraws. Simply put, every game is important for both teams.

UP came out with the same intensity as their winning game over UST in the first set. They sure didn't want Adamson to get that much needed win that easily. Back and forth action for both teams. Pau Soriano of Adamson didn't seem to mind UP's strong plays as she stopped their scoring surge and the Lady Falcons won set number 1.

It was the same thing in set number 2 though. Despite losing the 1st set, the Lady Maroons showed the Lady Falcons that they are not to be taken lightly. It was Angelia Araneta that took over the scoring duties for UP and gave Pau Soriano of Adamson a run for her money. Like in a basketball game, it turned into a 1-on-1 match of sorts. Once again, it was the Lady Falcons that were victorious in the 2nd set and have a 2-0 lead over the Lady Maroons.

The never say die attitude of the Lady Maroons gave the Lady Maroons a helluva fight in the 3rd set. The 1-on-1 match between Pau Soriano and Angeli Araneta continued. It was pretty much like the second set but UP forgot about containing another Adamson scorer by the name of Angela Benting. The Lady Maroons focused too much on Soriano on the defensive end. Benting took advantage of UP's mistake.

With South Ramos not getting any playing time at all and Eileen Quejas not being a factor for UP, they simply didn't have enough size to contain Adamson's scorers. In the end, Adamson sealed the deal as cruised past UP 3 sets to nil. Angeli Araneta finished with 12 points (11 attacks and 1 service ace) for the Lady Maroons.

Pau Soriano of Adamson University was no doubt Shakey's Best Player of the Game with 17 points (17 attacks and 1 service ace) while teammate Angela Benting contributed with 12 points (11 attacks and 1 block). The crowd favorite Jenalyn "Kaboom" Ortega didn't play for the Lady Falcons in this game.

Ateneo also got their eye on the number 3 spot in the UAAP Women's Volleyball Tournament. Adamson got the sole 3rd place lead on them for now. The improving FEU Lady Tams are looking to score an upset on the Lady Eagles. Won't be an easy job but Maica Morada is somehow feeling good vibes for her Lady Tamaraw at the moment.

FEU were off to a good start. That somehow surprised Ateneo in the first set. The Lady Tams' Maica Morada was her usual self carrying her tea on her shoulders. Of course, she had help from her rookie teammates Kath Magsumbol and Rosemarie Vargas.

Fille Cainglet of Ateneo wasn't fazed of FEU's gutsy plays though. She brought her A-game yet again and was on attack mode for the Lady Eagles. Dzi Gervacio joined in the scoring fun of Cainglet which lead to Ateneo's first set win.

Again, Morada and Co. wasn't about to get the boot that easily and came out fighting in the second set -- literally. The pesky FEU Lady Tams came out with guns a blazing keeping the game close. Albeit their angelic looks, the Lady Eagles were obviously none too pleased with FEU's scoring run. Ateneo halted FEU's momentum before they could reach the 20-point mark as they won second set.

If that wasn't enough, FEU did the same thing on Ateneo in the 3rd and final set. It was Maica Morada leading the way again for FEU. Losing to Ateneo was inevitable but somehow FEU gave them a great workout of sorts. The Lady Eagles' Dzi Gervacio had seen enough and it was time for her to vanquish the Lady Tamaraws once and for all. Ateneo finally swept FEU 3 sets to nil.
The Lady Tams Maica Morada finished with 12 points (11 attacks and 1 block).

Dzi Gervacio of Ateneo was named Shakey's Best Player of the Game with 15 points (14 attacks) while her teammate Fille Cainglet had 10 points (9 attacks).

Ateneo's win ties Adamson yet again in third place.
