As per reports that Kimi Raikkonen's possible return to Formula One to replace Robert Kubica's seat, the Renault camp is rumored to be leaning towards German Nick Heidfeld as their guy. While they have some good drivers in mind to fill in for Kubica who got injured in a rally competition last week. Many speculate that choosing Heidfeld over Raikkonen could perhaps be a good decision for Renault.

Of course he has to go through some sort of evaluation process before he could make the cut.

Via Yahoo!/Eurosport UK:
"Nick is here to be evaluated," the Frenchman said at the second pre-season test of the year at the Jerez circuit in southern Spain.

"Once we have finished our assessment of him, if we are happy with Nick, then we keep Nick. If we are not, we go to Barcelona and we test some other drivers," he is reported to have said, referring to the next test.

"We have to develop this car from scratch, so the obvious choice of driver is an experienced one."

Heidfeld hasn't been in Formula One competition for about a year now, it would be a great opportunity to redeem himself. While his F1 resume isn't all that bad, driving for a team like Renault could elevate his skills to the next level. After all, Ferrari's Fernando Alonso did make an impact for Renault a few years ago.
