FEU, UST advance to UAAP 73 Volleyball Finals

The Final Four of the UAAP Volleyball for season 73 has officially begun. On Wednesday, teams ranked 2 and 3 faced for both the Men's and Women's Volleyball Tournament. The FEU Tamaraws look to get back in Finals and the defending champs UST Tigresses aim to keep their title this season.

The Lady Maroons may be out but not their male counterparts as the UP Fighting Maroons want to be in the title hunt just as bad as the FEU Tamaraws. FEU lost to UST in last year's championship match and they are obviously out to redeem themselves once again. A win on UP would take them back to the finals.

The Tamaraws didn't have any problems taking the 1st set. The Maroons did managed to put up a fight in the 2nd and 3rd sets but wasn't enough to avoid getting swept and eliminated by the FEU Tams 3 sets to nil. Their win over UP sealed their return to the finals.

FEU's Nestor Molate was named Shakey's Best Player of the Game finishing with 14 points (11 attacks and 2 blocks).

FEU -- 3 UP -- 0

25-16, 25-22, 25-20

It's now the ladies turn to play as the Tigresses have no plans on getting eliminated in the Final Four. The Adamson Lady Falcons have a tough mountain to climb though. The defending champs have a twice-to-beat advantage and it surely won't be an task for Angela Benting (playing in her final year) and the rest of the Lady Falcons.

In the first set, Adamson U showed UST that they are to be taken seriously. Back and forth action kept the Lady Falcons at bay but the Tigresses kept their poise, took control of the game and soon enough set number 1 was on lock for the champs.

It was the same result for the Tigresses in the 2nd set. Getting swept by UST seemed inevitable but Angela Benting carried the Lady Falcons to win the 3rd set and extend the game. Benting played with tremendous heart as she willed her team once more in the 4th set. Another graduating player Aiza Maizo of UST was just too much to handle for Adamson as victory was already at hand. UST didn't look back and completely eliminating Adamson in the tournament 3-1. AdU's Angela Benting finished with 23 points (21 attacks and 2 blocks).

The Tigresses officially booked themselves a ticket back to the UAAP Finals.

The Shakey's Best Player of the Game goes to Aiza Maizo of UST racking up 20 points (17 attacks and 3 blocks).

UST -- 3 AdU -- 1

25-23, 25-18, 17-25, 25-21
