Formula One driver Robert Kubica got seriously injured a few days ago during a rally competition in Italy. He was taken to a hospital after the crash. Surprisingly, his co-driver Jacub Gerber wasn't hurt in the accident. While this wasn't the first time the Polish driver got involved in an accident while in competition, this was by far the worst he's ever got into.

Kubica suffered multiple fractures and will undergo surgery.

from the Reuters:

Polish Formula One driver Robert Kubica suffered multiple fractures to his right arm, leg and hand in a high-speed crash on Sunday while competing in a rally in Italy, his Renault team said.

A team spokeswoman said Kubica, Renault's leading driver and a race winner in Canada in 2008 with his former BMW-Sauber team, had been flown to hospital.

"After undergoing extensive medical checks this morning, Robert Kubica has been diagnosed with multiple fractures to his right arm, leg and hand. He is currently undergoing surgery at the Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure," the Renault statement said.

With little more than a month to go before the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, the 26-year-old will now almost certainly miss the start of the season.

With Kubica being out for a year, there reports that rally driver Kimi Raikkonen would be his suitable replacement for the upcoming Formula One season while he recovers from his injuries. While Raikkonen is leaning towards making a comeback in F1, Lotus-Renault might be sticking with the current drivers they have.

For now, the good news is that Kubica has been making progress after the surgery. But according to his doctors he would undergo surgery yet again. At least, his fans all over the world know that he's alright and out of danger.
