With only a few games left in the elimination round of the 37th PBA Philippine Cup, teams at the bottom 3 look to vie for the 8th spot for the semis. The Alaska Aces needed a win to stay in contention. On the other hand, the Shopinas.com Clickers may be eliminated already but they still look to earn that first W. The Clickers played the Aces like there was no tomorrow. Coach Franz Pumaren's fullcourt D gave the Alaska a ton of problems offensively. And speaking of offense, the Clickers got a lot of it.
RJ Jazul was clearly on fire. He almost single-handedly torched the Aces in the process.
Alaska were ice could for an awful lot of time in the fourth quarter. LA Tenorio and Sonny Thoss were the only ones picking up the pieces for the team. The Aces clawed their way back and got the lead with under 2 minutes left in the quarter -- breaking the Clickers 20-7 scoring run.
Jazul's hands were waxing hot until Alaska's defense started to pick up. Sonny Thoss bailed them out with a couple of clutch baskets in the paint.
Nevermind that LA Tenorio made a bonehead play -- an ill-adviced quick 3 pointer that missed -- with about 40 seconds left in the game.
Still, the Alaska Aces won a hard-fought game against the Clickers 86-80 albeit RJ Jazul's hot shooting.
Sonny Thoss chalked up 15 points for the Aces.
The Clickers' RJ Jazul lead all scorers with 24 points.
Meanwhile, the B-Meg Llamados got another W against the Ginebra Gin Kings 88-76. Ginebra some choked in the fourth quarter and the Llamados took advantage of it.
James Yap scored 17 points while rookie Mark Barroca added 14 more points for B-Meg.
Ginebra's Jayjay Helterbrand finished with 17 points and Enrico Villanueva chipped in with 13 points.
