Thoughts on the PBA's latest trade(s)

Ginebra Gin Kings' Mark Caguia knows it's time for a change.

I must admit I haven't been that updated when it comes to anything about the PBA in the past few months. Just recently though, I couldn't help but be curious about the country's pro hoops league. Then I heard about the latest trade between the B-Meg Llamados, Barako Bull Energy and the Ginebra Gin Kings.

While it's no surprise that the trade proposals from teams start floating early in the PBA season, the good thing though is that Commissioner Chito Salud takes a close look at these proposals before approving them. Unlike in the past that there were rather ridiculous trades, I'd say the league is definitely in good hands. Y'all gotta give the Commish props for that.

Rebuilding the Pinoys' beloved team

I know Ginebra's slowly rebuilding their team with that particular trade, heck even Mark Caguia somehow knew it was already inevitable. Perhaps they are preparing for Jay-jay Helterbrand's retirement that's just around the corner. From the looks of it, Ginebra wants a young and athletic type of team. With Yancy De Ocampo and Jimbo Aquino gone, an athletic and young big men like Rico Maierhofer and rookie Allein Maliksi could just be what they needed.

B-Meg just got bigger

The Llamados won't exactly miss the services of Maierhofer, they got a quality big man in return like one Yancy De Ocampo. Not only that, they receive a future draft pick on the side. Coach Tim Cone should be happy with this trade as it will give them a much deeper and better front court rotation.

An opportunity for Aquino

I think the trade could be a blessing for Jimbo Aquino. He may have to settle for a role in the second unit but at least, he'll be getting some playing time. Barako Bull also get a couple of future draft picks from the deal.

Overall, this is not a bad trade. It's win-win deal for all the teams involved. Again, props to Commissioner Salud for a job well done for that.

The PBA is starting to be fun again.
